keyboardist/singer/songwriter/programmer lives and breathes every single day with an
unstoppable fire and passion rival only to Mount Olympus.
Introducing Mischievia - a woman with pig-tails, purpose, grit, and
enough raw energy to blaze a trail straight to the top!
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada, surrounded by an entire family rooted in music, the highly-spirited songstress recalls. . .
"I can't remember there ever being a time in my life when I wasn't playing the piano, singing, or doing something musical! m
Influenced by an accordion-touting father, a steel-string guitar/ukulele/organ/piano-playing church-choir mother, and a drummer/guitarist/keyboardist for an older brother, Mischievia's musical surroundings irrevocably placed her in touch with her own inner rhythms and melodies at an early age. "It's just something I do," she claims. Discovering the piano at age three and starting lessons at age five may have had something to do with it too. Already an accomplished pianist/keyboardist by the age of sixteen, professional performer by seventeen, her exploration into music technology began blossoming soon thereafter, creating a new love between woman and machine. Now, not only does she play and program nearly every piece of the music she writes and sings, but records everything initially in her own mini studio.
Describing her music as "energetic, strong, and sexy", the often smirky Mischievia easily entices the listener to become entranced with it's infectious rhythms, up-beat energy, and bi-polar mesh of soft and brash vocals. ". . . a sort of Kylie Minogue meets Pink at a Madonna vs Tina Turner mud-wresting match, refereed by No Doubt, maybe," she laughs. A pounding kick drum and percussive keyboards are only part of what you'll find on a typical Mischievia spin. Unique blends of buzzy and sometimes quirky keyboards help texture the loops and samples that intertwine with the vocals. And speaking of vocals, don't be surprised if they go from innocent, and goddess-like, to something that snarls and nearly bites you, all in under ten seconds.
Mischievia's musical focus, and long term goal of "a sound that bridges geography and genre - a sound that spans the world," is also her studio mantra. With eclectic influences like Janet Jackson & long-dead classical pianist Rachmaninov, reggae king Bob Marley & English gem Cold Play, who knows exactly what this Gemini's natural-born duality might conger up.
Not surprisingly, she's a world traveler too. Both her lifestyle and music have been seriously influenced by it. While trying to interlace and translate all she absorbs from travel into sound, Mischievia finds herself humbled and grateful for the opportunity and privilege it provides in allowing her to view life through the eyes of others. "When I write music, sometimes I express my own sentiments. Other times, they're the views and emotions of other people. When I travel, however, the line between the two erases. My eyes become your eyes. And the view is much clearer." m
Mischievia says she also writes songs consciously aware of the opportunity danceable music provides in helping other people get motivated and excited about moving their bodies. "I really want to create music that moves people... literally! And what better way to get people up and doing something good for their body than by getting them to dance!" As an advocate and vocal supporter of healthy living, she herself sets the standard high. Committed to a workout schedule that includes five hours of cardio a week, and a food-choice regime that primarily focuses on fuelling rather than filling, it's no wonder she loves to dance, jog, roller-skate, and has the legs to prove it.
Obviously, Mischievia is both adventurer and passionate lover of life, her music being the aural embodiment of all that stimulates, motivates, and propels her through the world.
